Are You Afraid to Win?

You’ve given into it.
Zero-sum logic. A way of thinking that states that if you win, someone else loses.
It’s not a belief we’re born with, it’s something we learn.
There was a time I won a talent show. And while everyone clapped and enjoyed my performance, there were those – in my family – who were not so congratulatory.
Winning was not something that was difficult for me as a kid. Neither was receiving.
It wasn’t until I learned there’d be resentment when I accomplished things, or even received compliments.
It’s not Success itself that feels bad – it’s one of the most fulfilling experiences in the world. It’s the reactions and projections of others.
If empathy has been as much of a weakness as it is your strength, it may be hard to draw a line.
This causes you to hide. You don’t give your pursuits your all. You start to hold back. Or over-give. Become a Martyr. Self-Sabotage to stay safe.
You don’t indulge in the thing that bring you joy, or really enjoy your success.
You didn’t know that you get to create Success on your own terms.
You’re afraid to have boundaries.
I don’t mean the kind of boundaries where you’re telling people no, or blocking family members.
I mean allowing yourself the Emotional Peace of owning what is yours and not allowing guilt. Maybe you fee like you should feel guilty…
The only reason you defend yourself around family or in your comments section, is because you’re emotionally accessible and triggered by people challenging your blessings. Somewhere, you feel responsible, or like you have to prove you deserve everything you’ve built.
But you don’t.
It’s not about the people who challenge you or feel entitled to your gains or your labor.
It is about your relationship with success and winning.
This relationship is entirely your own, and you have permission to cultivate it.
Avoiding the world and your gifts is not where you thrive. If may feel momentarily comfortable, but ultimately your desires will always be calling.
You know you could be bigger.
If you don’t allow yourself get comfortable with how brilliant you are, the last person to be resentful is yourself.
